Compact and Accessible

With a population of around 150,000, Dundee is small enough to explore on foot yet offers a wealth of cultural and leisure activities. Whether you’re interested in water sports on the Tay, mountain climbing, or enjoying theatre at Dundee Rep, there’s something for everyone.

Economic Opportunities

The University of Dundee plays a pivotal role in the city’s prosperity. It collaborates with local authorities, businesses, and voluntary sectors. Dundee’s reinvention from a post-industrial past has been remarkable, and the university contributes significantly to its economic growth.

Safety

Dundee ranks as one of the safest cities in the UK, providing peace of mind for residents and visitors alike.

International Community

Like the university, Dundee is multicultural and home to residents from various countries and ethnic backgrounds. Specialty food shops, places of worship, and international supermarkets cater to diverse needs.

In summary, Dundee’s blend of culture, safety, economic opportunities, and stunning surroundings make it an attractive destination for both living and working.

Dundee, a city perched on the east coast of Scotland, boasts a compelling blend of urban vitality and natural beauty. Here are several reasons why it’s considered a great place to live and work:

Quality of Living

Dundee offers a high quality of life, with green spaces, excellent transport links, and a friendly atmosphere. The city overlooks the River Tay, where dolphins play during the summer. Residents enjoy both city life and wide-open spaces.

Cultural Hub

As the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, Dundee thrives as a creative center. The iconic V&A Dundee—the only V&A museum outside of London—adds to its reputation. The Wall Street Journal even named Dundee among the top ten places to visit in 2018.

Property Prices

The average property price in the Dundee postcode area is £166K, with a median price of £136k. Over the last twelve months, the average price has remained stable, indicating sustained demand despite challenges posed by economic factors such as fluctuating mortgage rates and inflation.

In terms of property types, an established property in Dundee has an average price of £166K, while a newly built property commands a higher average price of £309k.

In terms of sales, there were 2789 property transactions in Dundee. However, sales experienced a slight decrease of 8.41% (-256 transactions) due to the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and adjustments in mortgage interest rates.

Across Scotland, analysing property sales by price range reveals that the majority of properties were sold in the £20,000 to £145,000 range, accounting for 36,828 (36.4%) properties. This was followed by the £145,000 to £250,000 range, with 32,727 (32. 4%) properties sold.

When comparing average property prices and percentage changes in prices by postcode area, Dundee demonstrates resilience. It stands out as one of the top ten places for affordable postcode areas in Scotland.

Regarding property types, flats generally present as more budget-friendly options compared to houses in Dundee.

The Rental Market

A persistent disparity between supply and demand strongly influences this rise in rents.

Demand from prospective tenants is intensifying, but there aren’t enough UK rental properties to accommodate them. That is also true for Dundee tenants.
